OLATHE, KS (KCTV) -
Thousands of swimmers across the metro are soaking up the sun one last time for the summer.
"I'm mainly on the diving board because the line for the water slide is big," said Monica Phillips, 9.
"I like to swim and see my friends and do the high dive," Rowen Sheffer said.
Rowen Sheffer and his big brother Kale have spent many days through this long, hot summer at Black Bob Bay in Olathe, KS.
"It's the best pool I've ever been to because the rest of them don't have a lot of stuff like this," Kale Sheffer, age 10, said as he looked around at the slides and diving boards.
Parents like Deedee Phillips said they're sad to see the summer end.
"It was a fabulous summer. We spent a lot of time at Black Bob Bay. We're just excited to come one last time before it closes for the season," she said.
Even though much of the weekend saw rain, the weather worked Monday.
"It's perfect, you couldn't ask for a better day," Phillips said.
Pool managers said attendance was up this year because of the heat and very few rainy days.
Olivia Sander said the summer was so hot, the pool was the perfect solution.
"I feel like I'm in a microwave, like that hot," she said. "I like that at least there's water, because water cools you down."
But even though it's his last outdoor swim of the summer, Rowen Sheffer likes to stay positive. In just a few months he'll be doing one of his other favorite things: playing in the snow.
Most pools are closing Monday night if they haven't already. In Johnson County, Tomahawk Ridge Aquatic Center and Stonegate Pool in Overland Park close at 8 p.m. Monday.
