SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) -
The Kansas City Symphony will present its 29th annual Labor Day Pops in the Park concert on Monday at 7 p.m.
Under the evening sky and the baton of assistant conductor Aram Demirjian in his KCS debut, the full symphony orchestra will perform a program designed to delight family audiences.
"It's really exciting, it all seems real. The more people I see actually, the more the nerves go away because it's just so heartwarming to see so many people come out and support the symphony and to support music in general," Demirjian said.
The casual free concert in the Theatre in the Park at Shawnee Mission Park, located at 7710 Renner Road in Shawnee, KS, features a family-oriented program. Thousands come out to hear performances of familiar classics from The Stars and Stripes Forever to Hungarian Dances!
The annual favorite draws large audiences from around the metropolitan area and provides the opportunity to hear the Kansas City Symphony in a relaxed, outdoor setting.
Park concessions will be available, and concert-goers are invited to bring snacks and coolers, along with their lawn chairs and blankets.
Young audience members may visit the Symphony's "Petting Zoo," where trained musicians help youngsters try their hands at a variety of orchestral instruments.
The parking lot will open at 4:30 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m.
Pre-concert entertainment with the Youth Symphony of Kansas City begins at 6 p.m.
