HIGGINSVILLE, MO (KCTV) -
All of the weekend's rain is giving a big boost to area farmers.
Farmers said they're starting to see some of their crops go from brown to a rich green color, a welcomed change to the way things had been.
The rain that started Friday was just the kind of rain farmers love because it came slow and steady and seeped into the ground. Farmers said they haven't seen much runoff and the rain seems to be going right where it's needed.
This means that some crops farmers had once considered a lost cause are going to be able to come back.
Farmers also said they're excited for their livestock because they had been feeding them hay for quite some time and now they'll hopefully be able to start eating grass again, meaning the farmers can save the hay for when it's really needed in the winter.
"It's been, I don't know how to say it, a lifesaver, Godsend, whatever you want to say. Not only this crop but you've got to remember, you've got to have moisture in the soil for next year's crop," Jim Wood said.
Being able to salvage the crop means farmers are basically going to be able to salvage the money that they would get from their business this season.
