Metro pastor temporarily trades in pulpit for streets

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A metro pastor has temporarily traded in the pulpit for the streets of Kansas City.

Pastor Timmy Gibson of Mercy Church in Prairie Village, KS, is trying to raise awareness of homelessness in the metro. He spent the day walking around the city, eating where the homeless eat and sleeping where the homeless sleep.

Gibson started at 8 a.m. Saturday and will end Sunday at 8 a.m.

"It's my sixth year to live homeless and, not that it's that difficult, let's be honest. It's one day of camping out, but it really just puts us in company with homeless people that we normally don't have any interaction with," he said.

Gibson said he will go straight to church in the morning and share his experience with his congregation.
