LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -
Mitt Romney is the official Republican Presidential Nominee. He spent much of Thursday night at the Republican National Convention trying to relate to voters, but also attacking the President's economic policies.
The newly-nominated Republican ticket won't be celebrating long as Romney and Paul Ryan get to work Friday with campaign rallies in Florida and Virginia.
But people were celebrating in Lee's Summit, MO, Thursday night.
A packed house of supporters cheered Romney on at the Jackson County Republican headquarters. People there got fired up when Romney pointed out what he considers the failures of the Obama administration. But they also looked to him to define more clearly who he is and what he stands for.
"Show America his true personality and his true values. His family values are very evident, but he loves America," Jackson County Committee member Lynn Vogel said.
"Obviously jobs. We need jobs in this country and you got to get the economy back on track and I feel most certainly that he (Romney) will," Jackson County GOP Chair Gary Dusenberg said.
"Social conservative principals and his ability to bring leadership to our country – those are the real issues," said Nola Wood, who is running for the 37th District State Representative seat.
There was a real focus on defining Romney the man. There were speeches earlier in the night from friends sharing personal stories and talking about his humanity.
Romney himself got emotional speaking about his parents and his children, and he cracked a couple jokes.
Watch party supporters felt he delivered on defining himself, and hammering the defining issues of jobs and the economy.
The Democratic National Convention starts Monday and runs through Thursday in Charlotte, N.C., and KCTV5 will have complete coverage.
