An international child porn investigation led to the arrest of another Kansas man and new allegations of crimes against children.
What started the far-reaching case was a computer image of kiddie porn with a Johnson County business logo in the background. But the latest local arrest came not from computer forensics, but old-fashioned interviews.
Robert Poe III's house in the Turner area of Kansas City, KS, looks abandoned, the vestiges of a served search warrant littered inside.
A man close to Poe told neighbors Poe had left and probably wasn't coming back, and new details explain why.
"I hate to see that there are actually people like that in the world today and I just wish there was something we could do to stop them," Richard Corp, Poe's neighbor, said.
Court documents said Poe, 38, was a close friend to Michael Arnett, who's also 38 and lived in Roeland Park, KS. Arnett went into federal custody in May, accused of producing child porn and even plotting to rape, murder and eat children.
A young man who saw the story about Arnett's arrest then came forward with allegations about Poe molesting him and other boys about 12 years ago. The alleged victims were 7, 8 and 10 to 12 at the time.
Two of them told the same story - that they were forced to perform oral sex acts at gunpoint.
On Aug. 1, a friend told police that "Poe confessed to him (that day) that he was a pedophile," said he was "leaving for good," then signed over Power of Attorney.
Poe's father told police Poe contacted him that same day and said "he was afraid he was in 'trouble' for things he had done 'years ago.'"
Authorities arrested Poe in Texas. He is now the seventh person arrested and charged in the federal case.
The original photos were discovered overseas, and an investigation led authorities to Kansas.
Other arrests in the alleged international child pornography ring were in Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts, California and New Mexico.
Investigators are concerned there may be more victims.
If anyone has any information about Poe or Arnett, they are asked to call Homeland Security Investigation's Operation Predator toll-free hotline at 1-866-347-2423.
