VERNON, CT (WFSB) -

The first day of school was anything but routine at the Maple Street School in Vernon after a man got into a fight with his child's mother outside the building on the first day of school.

Vernon police said David Salmon, 26, of East Hartford, got into a fight with his child's mother during first day of school activities.

The fight continued outside the school, police said, and Salmon ended up throwing milk at the woman.

The incident didn't stop there, police said.

After the fight, Vernon police said, Salmon then followed the woman while they were in separate vehicles and rammed her car from behind several times.

A police officer witnessed what was taking place and attempted to stop Salmon's vehicle. However, the police officer said Salmon sped up and drove to the left of the center lane nearly crashing into oncoming traffic.

The officer said Salmon stopped a short time later and was arrested.

Salmon was charged with breach of peace, engaging police in a pursuit, possession of less than one half ounce of marijuana, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
