Jeremy Burke
PLATTE CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Investigators arrested a 27-year-old Kentucky man after seizing suitcases filled with marijuana Tuesday from a Platte City motel.
Jeremy Burke has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance after authorities confiscated 78 pounds of marijuana.
The amount of marijuana was so vast investigators needed a luggage cart to haul it away from the Super 8 near Northwest Prairie View and Higgins roads.
"Platte City is not a high-crime area, and it is unusual for this large amount of marijuana in the city," Platte County Sheriff's Capt. Erik Holland said.
The Platte County Sheriff's Department said it has been working a tip about a drug case along with the Missouri Highway Patrol, which led investigators to the motel just after 3 p.m. Tuesday as authorities swarmed the motel, carting away the illegal marijuana.
"It is a large amount of marijuana. I'm not going to take any guesses at this point as to the exact amount until it is weighed and analyzed at a lab," Holland said.
Burke's bond has been set at $75,000 cash only. Authorities would not say if the marijuana was being trafficked in or out of the state.
