Woman caught in Justin Bieber ticket scam

Posted: Updated:

A local mother went online to get her daughter tickets to the hottest show this fall in Kansas City but was ripped off by a scam artist.

The woman wants to warn others not to buy Justin Bieber tickets from a thief.  So far, three people reported the same scam to police, and there may be more.

The victims went to Craigslist to buy tickets for the upcoming Justin Bieber concert in October at the Sprint Center.

They agreed to pay $125 for the tickets and met the seller at a nearby location. They never thought they were being taken advantage of.

When they took a closer look at the tickets, they realized the serial numbers were the exact same. The fake tickets also had a picture of Justin Bieber on them.  The real tickets do not have a picture.

"It seemed very legitimate.  His kids got better tickets as a birthday gift from their grandmother, and he was just getting rid of the tickets.  He had to recoup the cost, and he was charging an arm and a leg over face value," said one women who asked not to reveal her identity.

Each victim called the Sprint Center and learned the tickets were fake.  Police warn that people should use caution when buying tickets online and verify the tickets before they buy from an individual seller.

Police say based on the description from all three victims, they believe the same person ripped off all three people and warn more scam artists may try to commit the same crime.

"He was very conversational.  I did say, ‘I would like for my own piece of mind to verify the validity of the tickets.'  He said ‘Sure, absolutely. No problem at all.  Call me if you have any problems.'," a victim to the scam said.

The victim said she called him back to meet him at the same time and place the next day.  She said the man agreed and apologized for any problems, but the man never showed up.
