KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
If drivers tried to fill up at area Phillips 66 gas stations Monday, they were likely turned away after several stores were without gas.
The Phillips 66 station at Mission Road and 95th Street said they haven't had regular unleaded gas since last week, and they don't know when the tanks will be filled.
Drivers, like Betty Schuldt, left with an empty tank when they pulled up to the pump.
"I was just trying to get gas. I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow going on vacation, just trying to get gas," Schuldt said.
"These locations are owned and operated by a third-party operator. Due to financial difficulties the owner has chosen to temporarily close the sites. We are working diligently towards a solution," Phillips 66 spokesperson Alissa Hicks said.
PCF Saleco is the owner operator of the stations. The Colorado company didn't return calls from KCTV5 on Monday.
Several Phillips 66 stations on the Kansas side, like this one at 67th Street and Interstate 35, were also out of gas. On the Missouri side, the company owns 21 stations, and many of them were on empty too.
"Makes me wonder what is going on," driver Zac Jensen said.
For metro drivers just looking to fill up, it has been frustrating, but for most, there is an easy solution: find the other gas station down the road.
All of the stores without gas also had signs saying the credit card machines were down and they are accepting cash only.
