KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A south Kansas City elementary school was briefly evacuated as a precaution after the smell of smoke was detected in the building.

Firefighters were called Tuesday morning to Truman Elementary located in the 9600 block of James A. Reed Road.  The school was evacuated about 9:40 a.m.

Crews said no fire was present in the building but detected a smoking light fixture.

Students were allowed back into the building about 20 minutes later.
