KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Soul-stirring songstress, music innovator and Kansas City, KS, native Janelle Monáe, is the new face of Covergirl.

The deal marks the R&B singer's first beauty contract.

Monáe, who is known for her musical innovation and blockbuster vocals, sports her signature tuxedo wardrobe and retro-style look during the 10-page print ad shoot which is scheduled to debut in the September 2012 issue of Vogue. World-renowned makeup artist and P&G Beauty Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrath worked behind the scenes to create the looks for the newest Covergirl ads.

"I believe it's time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them," said Monáe. "One of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique. Becoming a Covergirl is truly an honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out."

Monáe joins the likes of Taylor Swift, Drew Barrymore and Ellen DeGeneres.
