Strong winds damage Leavenworth skating rink

LEAVENWORTH, KS (KCTV) -

Strong winds from Wednesday night's storms were so powerful they ripped off the roof of a skating rink.

The roof was pulled back from the Wheel Thing Skate Center on Metropolitan Street in Leavenworth, KS, after the storm moved through the area. The winds even caused a portion of the roof to land in a neighbor's yard.

Leavenworth resident Crystal Baxter said the house where it landed was at the end of her cul-de-sac on Pawnee Court.

"Damage is devastating," she said.

No injuries were reported.

High winds even tore some trees down in the area. There were reports in Leavenworth of strong winds about 60 mph at times.

Pea-sized hail also pounded homes and cars as the storms moved through the Leavenworth area.
