Deadly accident reported on SB I-29 near Dearborn

Posted: Updated:

A 77-year-old Nebraska woman died in a crash on southbound Interstate 29 near Dearborn Wednesday morning.

The woman was a passenger in a vehicle hit by another driver. The crash occurred just before mile marker 33 about three miles south of Faucett about 8:45 a.m.

The crash closed the highway for several hours.

According to Missouri Highway Patrol, Kellie S. Holtman, 41, of St. Joseph, was traveling south in a 2004 Kia Optima on the interstate. She tried to pass a 2007 Nissan Titan driven by Jasper B. Jordan, 59, of Omaha.

Holtman "attempted to pass vehicle one by traveling into the right lane" and lost control, troopers said. Holtman's vehicle struck the front of the Titan, causing Jordan to lose control.

Both vehicles traveled off the road and hit the cable barriers, preventing a cross-over wreck.

Louise Edington, 77, of Omaha, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:59 a.m. by the Buchanan County coroner. Kassandra A. Jordan, 19, and Mollie R. McGee, 76, both of Omaha, were riding in the second vehicle. Both were injured, but are expected to recover.

Holtman was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. No one in the Titan was wearing a seatbelt.
