KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -
A UPS delivery gone wrong could have put a Kansas couple's identity at risk, but they are breathing easier in part because of a call to KCTV5.
The couple has no idea how their package with sensitive information ended up on the side of the road near 10th Street and Kansas Avenue.
They used UPS to mail mortgage documents that included their social security numbers. Then they received a call from a stranger telling them he had found their documents on the side of the road.
The couple met the man and got their documents back safely, but because they don't know what happened to their documents between the time it was picked up and the time the man found them, they asked the company for help with credit monitoring.
They say about 25 phone calls later, UPS employees told them there was nothing the company could do. That was when they gave KCTV5 a call for help.
"We were ecstatic. Thank you so much. We appreciate the call. We appreciate you looking into this," John Dudgeon told KCTV5's Emily Rittman.
Rittman called the director of public relations for UPS and explained the couple's circumstances.
The director said they investigated the case and now plan to offer the couple one year of free credit reporting.
