Two Fort Riley soldiers killed in Afghanistan

FORT RILEY, KS (KCTV) -

Two 1st Infantry Division soldiers were killed Wednesday in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.

Pfc. Jesus Jonathan Lopez, 22, and 1st Lt. Todd Lambka, 25, were assigned to 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division which is currently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

This was the first deployment for both soldiers.

Lopez, a San Bernardino, CA native, joined the Army in May 2011. He arrived at Fort Riley in August 2011. His awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one campaign star.

Lambka, a Fraser, MI native, was commissioned in May 2010 from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He arrived at Fort Riley in November 2011. His awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one campaign star.
