KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Hundreds showed up Saturday morning to a special event hoping a good meal will lead to a good Samaritan stepping forward with information in the death of a Raytown man.
Harry Stone was gunned down while jogging Mother's Day at 67th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard near his Raytown home. Police believe two men were driving past the intersection and shot Stone while he was jogging. So far police haven't been able to find the person who pulled the trigger and now they're hoping the public breakfast will help bring in some new tips about the case.
"The church wanted to do something to help raise funds and honor Harry. This is a way they can do that," Bobbie Stone, Harry's wife of almost 35 years, said.
The 30 minute line at Saturday morning's breakfast for Stone stretched through St. Luke's United Methodist Church - a church Harry's widow has leaned on for the past three months.
"From the moment we knew Harry had been shot, church was going on and they suspended the regular service to pray. I feel their prayers every day, they are supporting me tremendously," Bobbie Stone said.
Saturday, the support came in the form of cash.
"This is our church, it means a great deal to me that so many people have come out and are purchasing wristbands and T-shirts to help raise the reward money fund," Bobbie Stone said.
Crime Stoppers is offering $10,000 for information about who killed Stone and the money raised Saturday could increase that reward.
"We certainly hope so. We have seen over the history of the program cases that do have rewards over the $1,000 the TIPS Hotline normally pays, they do show a little higher clearance rate. Hopefully that will motivate someone to come forward," Detective Kevin Boehm with Crime Stoppers said.
Stone's brother Randy Stone said he hopes Saturday's breakfast will bring answers.
"People that know who the killers are, help us out, step up, collect that TIPS money, feel good about it and get these killers off the street so it doesn't happen to any other families," Randy Stone said. "It's really important that no one else gets killed and their families go through what we've been through."
Anyone with information about Harry Stone's murder is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. They reward for information leading to an arrest could be worth up to $10,000.
