KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A suspected burglar was shot in the foot outside a Kansas City store early Thursday.

Innner-City General Store, Deli and Tire Repair was burglarized just before 2 a.m. by two men, police said. According to police, shots were fired at the suspects, and one was shot in the foot by the business owner.

A police dog was brought to the scene to help capture the suspect who was not shot.

Both suspects were taken into custody. The injured suspect was treated for his injury.

No charges will be filed against Harold Wallace, Inner-City's owner. He didn't discuss shooting the man, but told KCTV5 that Kansas City must clean up the inner city.

"They have got to have a war on burglaries and crimes like this," Wallace said. "The rules of engagement are going to have to change in order for it to stop."

The store is at 56th Street and Prospect Avenue.

"The burglars have free reign to do what they want to do in the community and seems like they can't be stopped because this is an isolated area," Wallace said. "It really needs to be developed in order to stop it."

Wallace was alerted to the burglary by a friend who lives near the residence and saw a suspicious vehicle. The friend then observed the suspects break into the building.

The men were stealing equipment and the store's vehicle renewal sticker book when they were caught in the act.
