KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A father was shot to death in his Kansas City home, and neighbors said his own son pulled the trigger.

The attack happened about 3:30 p.m. at a tan house near 30th Street and Olive Avenue. Neighbors said they heard several loud gunshots and saw a person with a gun running down the street.

Police received information that the suspect boarded a city bus after running from the scene. Officer stopped an Area Transportation Authority bus at 18th and Holmes Street less than an hour later and captured the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, neighbors said the 46-year-old victim, later identified as William Smith, stumbled off his porch with wounds to his face and head and several people rushed to his side. Smith was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police aren't identifying the suspect at this time.
