KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Facebook is filled with pleas from Kansas City residents to their neighbors: Sign up to become one of Google's new Fiberhoods.
Neighborhoods are already lining up for Google's new extraordinary high-speed internet. Google is also offering television service.
Hanover Heights in KCK is a small, older community, but enough residents want it. So Google will give them what they want.
"We knew Google Fiber was coming here, and I was excited to see what it was going to be like," Travis Haneke said.
Elvis Espero uses the internet to chat with his girlfriend. Their long-distance relationship will benefit from Google, Espero said.
"I think it would be better without the inference and without the slow up," he said.
Hanover Heights is across the street from Google's Fiber Office in the Kansas City area.
Existing providers are trying to persuade Hanover Heights not to bolt their service.
George Yule is happy with his current provider but is willing to change to Google.
"If they come up with a good price, we might talk. I'm always looking to save a buck," he said.
In addition to Hanover Heights, a neighborhood north of the University of Kansas hospital signed up. In Kansas City, Roanoke, Coleman Heights, Volker South and South Hyde Park are signed up.
Some residents may be deterred from signing up for cable service because of the omission of channels.
Google is not offering ESPN, AMC, HBO, TNT, CNN, Fox News, Fox Sports, Cartoon Network or the Disney channel.
"If they don't have ESPN on it, then there's no way I'm going to get the TV," Hanluen Kwo said.
Jamie Crist said he watches primarily sports on television.
"I do appreciate fast internet, so I might still give it a try," Crist said.
Google could add the channels at a later date.
