Former KC officer killed in Colorado crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (KCTV/AP) -

A former Kansas City police officer has died in a crash in Colorado.

Officer Matthew Tyner was killed Wednesday afternoon while working traffic enforcement as part of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Tyner joined the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1999 and served as a patrol officer, neighborhood resource officer and training academy instructor before becoming part of the motorcycle unit.

He served with the Kansas City, MO, Police Department for three years before moving to Colorado.

Police say a red pickup and Tyner's motorcycle were involved in the crash. Other circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.

A makeshift memorial has been set up for him at the scene of the accident.

According to KKTV-TV, flowers, teddy bears, and American flags are being left beside a highway in memory of the fallen officer.
