The mother of two sisters killed in a double murder is focused on honoring the memory of her daughters and providing for their girls.
The two young mothers were reported missing earlier this month. After an intensive search, investigators found the bodies of Britny Haarup and Ashley Key in a field two days later.
Clifford Miller is charged with killing both Haarup and Key. Miller was schedule for a routine court appearance Tuesday, but Tareasa Haarup had nothing to say about him.
Tareasa Haarup now carries her daughters by her heart. Their ashes are in a necklace around her neck. And the fact that they are not coming back is only now beginning to hit her.
"It is just finally starting to sink in that I didn't go on vacation and visit all my family. My kids are really gone," Tareasa Haarup said.
It is a reality that has her most worried for her oldest grandchild, Key's 5-year-old daughter Nevaeh, who is old enough to grasp the truth.
"When I explained to her that mommy and Aunt Britny have also gone to Heaven as well as some other people we've known, her only comment was, 'but they don't come back grandma.'," she said.
When Britny Haarup and Ashley Key were beaten and smothered inside Britny Haarup's Edgerton home, there was a lot of attention on Britny Haarup's two little ones, who were in that home when the killer took off with the young mothers' bodies.
But Key's girl is part of the story too, Tareasa Haarup says.
"So we've got to make sure this one is OK. And she is included with these kids that are being cared for," she said.
Tareasa Haarup has remained quiet since the girls were found, but was pulled to the stage by her brother Friday at a memorial service for the girls, to look out at the 500-plus people in attendance.
It was a sight that bolstered her then, and will continue to in the months and years to come.
"It was huge support. And I could never get back to everybody to thank them without doing this right here," she said.
A memorial fund has been setup for Haarup and Key.
