A 28-year veteran of the Lee's Summit Police Department was injured in a motorcycle crash on Monday.
The accident happened on Interstate 70 about 40 miles east of the Kansas City metro area while the officer and his partner were on a routine training exercise.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated the single-vehicle accident and the officer was transported from the scene by a helicopter to an area hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to recover.
The officer, William V. Oothout, 51, has been assigned to the motorcycle unit for 15 years, police said.
The crash occurred in Saline County near mile marker 72 in the eastbound lanes. The 2012 Victory motorcycle suffered extensive damage.
