KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Nearle Clarke nearly died in June 2011 in a car crash.

Kansas City police officer Sebastian Harriot saw the crash happen as he was responding to a call. Harriott helped stabilize Clarke.

Now 18 years old, Clarke is now interning at the Kansas City Police Department. He wants to pursue a career in law enforcement.

So he planned a special surprise appreciation event for Harriott Thursday.

"I could have lost my life," Clarke said. "It happened that quick. In a blink of an eye. I'm just happy to be here."

Harriott said he is proud of Clarke and appreciated the recognition.
