KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The search is on for two family dogs after fire tore apart a home in the Northland.

The blaze started just before 2 a.m. Thursday at a home in the 5400 block of Northeast Poe near Bennington Avenue. A neighbor spotted the flames and called 911.

"I was in my back office. I heard a pop, and then I heard another pop. So I came outside, and outside I find my neighbor out there and his house was on fire. I had to go back in to grab my phone and call 911 ... it was going up pretty good at that time," neighbor Steve Tindle said.

Firefighters said the couple had three dogs, but only one is accounted for. Firefighters believe the fire started in the kitchen.

The Red Cross was called to help the family.
