LEE'S SUMMIT, MO -
Crews are busy repairing two large water main breaks in the Kansas City area.
A significant portion of Lee's Summit Water Utilities customers are without water. This occurred about 4 p.m. Monday after a 12-inch water main broke.
This occurred in the Oak Ridge Meadows area off Anderson Drive and Hidden Valley Road.
Crews are working to make the needed repairs, but water was off for about 700 customers for a couple of hours. A boil advisory was then issued. Customers should boil their water for three to four minutes before drinking it, using it to cook or prepare food. Ice made with unboiled water after 3 p.m. should not be used.
The water is safe for bathing except for very young children. Children should be discouraged from swallowing the water while bathing.
City officials said a valve on a water main failed.
In Kansas City, part of Truman Road is closed because of a water main break.
The 16-inch main broke in the eastbound lanes of Truman near Interstate 435. The eastbound lanes of Truman are closed between Manchester Boulevard and I-435.
The repairs will keep the lanes closed at least through rush hour Tuesday morning. The break occurred about 3 p.m. Monday.
