PD: 5 arrested for abusing, injecting AZ woman with heroin
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Phoenix police have arrested five people who allegedly restrained a woman, injected her with heroin and abused her on July 4.
The victim told police that Chris Herschberg and Marissa Nickolls used force to restrain her, and John Koether injected her with heroin against her will, according to police reports.
Authorities said Nickolls used force to restrain the victim and threatened the victim's family when she said she'd call the police.
The victim also told police that Nickolls and Danielle Shannon kicked her while she was restrained and used scissors to cut off her hair, according to police documents.
Police served a search warrant to Koether and Linda Rivard's apartment near 51st Street and McDowell Road where the events allegedly took place.
Police found a clump of hair matching the victim's hair color, the victim's ID, scissors, a needle and drugs they believed to be methamphetamines and heroin, according to the report.
Koether was arrested during a traffic stop, police said. He and Rivard identified the other suspects.
Three of the suspects told police Koether injected the victim with heroin. Nickolls admitted to punching the victim. Koether said Nickolls hit the victim and she and Shannon cut her hair.
According to the police report, suspects admitted Koether and others burned the victim on the face, chest and back with cigarettes, but the report does not specify who said this or who else was involved.
Rivard denied participating but admitted to being present. She also said her three children were present during the events and she owned the safe the drugs were found in.
The victim was treated for numerous injuries and burns.
The suspects are each charged with aggravated assault with serious injury, aggravated assault for restraining and kidnapping.
