INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -

A standoff that had been going on for about five hours is over.

Independence police surrounded the home at East 35th Street and South Debra Street looking for an armed robbery suspect, who was also wanted for leading police on a chase and assaulting a police officer. The home is in a neighborhood north of Interstate 70 and east of South Lee's Summit Road.

Just before 6:30 a.m. Friday, police made contact with the people in the home, and one person came out. Shortly after 6:30 a.m., a special response team went into the home and took a second person out.

Police said the incident started around 1:15 a.m. when an armed robbery occurred in the street in front of a home in the 2300 block of East 41st Terrace South. The victim called police then followed the suspect a few blocks north to a Taco Bell restaurant at East 40th Street and South Crysler Ave.

The victim said he spotted the suspect in the fast food restaurant's drive-thru line.

When police officers arrived and approached the suspect's car, the suspect rammed the officer's car, then sped off.

Independence police officers fired gunshots at the suspect's car, but the suspect headed east and was chased almost four miles away before he drove into the garage of the home located near East 35th Street and South Debra Street. The home's garage door was already open when the suspect arrived at the home.

No injuries were reported in the incidents.
