North Kansas City Hospital board challenging potential sale

NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The board of trustees for North Kansas City Hospital have filed a lawsuit challenging a potential sale of the hospital.

Faced with dwindling revenues, the North Kansas City Hospital is looking at selling the hospital, which was established in the 1950s.

But physicians and the board believe the city doesn't have the authority to sell the hospital. They believe that authority resides solely with the board.

Because of that, the board filed a lawsuit in Clay County Circuit Court. The board is seeking an injunction to stop the sale.

Dr. Michael Montgomery, chairman of the board, said the council has not acted in good faith.

"They came to us without any warning," he said. "They've been working on this as far as we can tell for several months. And we've been aware about this for just several weeks. They are not willing to sit down with us."

Council members believe they have the authority to sell the hospital, which could bring hundreds of millions to city coffers.
