MISSION, KS (KCTV) -
Dozens of people are waiting outside Freebirds World Burrito in Mission, hoping to be one of the lucky few to get free food for a year.
It is a camp out like no other. It's for free burritos, and not just a few, but 52 free burritos.
Cecil Hedquist is thinking about the big one, the seven-pounder.
People started camping in front of the brand new Freebirds World Burrito about 11 a.m. Wednesday. The goal is be first in line Thursday when the store opens. The first 25 people get free food for a year.
"I came here just to check it out to see how many people there were, and turns outs there were 24 people and I was number 25, so pretty exciting. But I didn't bring any of my stuff," Merriam resident Jacob Wilson said.
Daniel Harf with Freebirds World Burrito thinks the people waiting are great because they are nuts.
"That fits us perfect, our slogan is, 'It's not normal!'" Harf said.
Some of the campers say they have camped out for stuff before, like free movie tickets and concerts, but never for burritos.
"We were like, 'You're crazy. It is like a hundred degrees.' And then we thought about it, and we're like, 'OK,'" Mission resident Aleah Sadeghi said.
For camper Brett Suddreth of Overland Park, the first thing he is going to order is a Canyon burrito and maybe some guacamole.
"It is going to be delicious," he said.
Sounds like it definitely will be worth the wait.
