SPRING HILL, KS (KCTV) -
A man is at Overland Park Regional Medical Center with critical injuries after an explosion inside a moving pickup.
A second man was treated and released after suffering lacerations to his face. One of his eyes was also injured.
The explosion occurred near 196th Street and South Lone Elm Road in Spring Hill, according to authorities. Officials with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office wouldn't say whether they think fireworks or something else sparked the explosion.
Jason Winbolt heard the explosion that rattled his neighborhood Tuesday night.
"It looked like the explosion happened inside the cab because the roof was domed and the passenger door was blown off and the dashboard was gone," Winbolt said.
People who heard the explosion rushed to the two men's aid. The man who remains hospitalized suffered injuries to his hands.
Both men are 20 years old and from Spring Hill. The driver was Taylor Wiggin while the passenger was Travis Miller, who remains hospitalized.
