Former strip club manager Tommy Urbanski, who was left paralyzed after a 2007 shooting involving a member of NFL player Adam "Pacman" Jones' entourage, called it "a little bit of justice that's long overdue."
The shooting occurred outside the former Minxx strip club during the NBA All Star weekend. Urbanski said the night of the shooting he had just arrived at work and heard on his headset that there was trouble on the floor. On his way, he ran into two club supervisors. "They never told me watch your back, somebody threatened to shoot up the place. They just told me to take a walk and watch outside," said Urbanski.
Moments after stepping out the front door, he was shot four times. The first bullet, according to Urbanski, paralyzed him immediately, the second struck him in the stomach and collapsed his left lung, the third hit him in the left wrist and the fourth bullet caught him under his left elbow.
Jones and his entourage were thrown out of Minxx after he tossed money toward the stage that caused a brawl to break out. The most damaging testimony against Jones came from three former club employees. "All of them said basically the same thing in so many words, he said, 'I'm going to smoke you. Go one step out the door, watch what happens,'" said Urbanski.
Jones had denied having a role in the shooting and pleaded an equivalent of no contest to misdemeanor conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct. He also denied that the shooter was part of his entourage even after he was shown security video camera footage of him talking to Arvin Kenti Edwards.
Edwards is serving four to 10 years in prison for shooting Urbanski and club bouncer Aaron Cudworth.
Jones' attorney said his client doesn't have the $11 million that was awarded Urbanski, his wife Kathleen and Cudworth. She told the court Jones only makes $950,000 a season. She plans to appeal. That doesn't faze Urbanski.
"Better start working, maybe get a second job like most of the United States does. If he makes a dime, we're going after it," he said.
