OLATHE, KS (KCTV) -
The Nexus Church of Olathe, KS, has gone above and beyond spreading what they call "love bombs."
Pastor Jon Purkey and volunteers from his congregation gathered at the QuikTrip at 135th and Blackfoot in Olathe early Friday morning to help folks start their weekends off right.
The church collected donations from its more than 400 members to raise $10,000 dollars since last Sunday and put that money to use by giving more than 600 people free gas.
Most everyone received a full tank of gas, even people with large SUVs. One man got in line at 3 a.m. Friday.
Several people had to have their cars pushed to the pump as they ran out of gas while waiting for their chance at free gas.
The line of people waiting to get free gas sometimes stretched to nearly a mile long and caused delays for commuters in the area.
The church began giving away free gas about 6 a.m. and stopped paying for full tanks between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Purkey said the church and its members came together at the last minute to buy 400 $10 gift cards for the remaining folks waiting in line early Friday morning who didn't get free gas.
