KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
A Kansas City man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the May 21, 2011, traffic accident that claimed the life of a passenger in the vehicle, the Jackson County Prosecutor's office announced.
Keevon U. Mitchell, 33, as part of a plea agreement, was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison for involuntary manslaughter while intoxicated. He also agreed to serve concurrent four-year sentences with that seven-year sentence on four other counts of driving while license was revoked, second-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.
According to court records, Mitchell was driving drunk early in the morning on May 21, when he wrecked the car he was driving near 31st Street and US 71 Highway, throwing the victim, 32-year-old Lonnie M. Thompson, from the vehicle. He was intoxicated at the time of the accident and was carrying a handgun in the car.
Mitchell had previous convictions driving with a revoked license, as well as alcohol and drug-related offenses.
