KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Police arrested three men in connection with the beating and carjacking of a Chinese food delivery driver.
A 43-year-old man was supposed to deliver food, Monday night, to a customer in the 7600 block of Monroe Ave. When the driver figured out the apartment he was supposed to deliver the food to did not exist, he walked back to his car.
According to police records, in the parking lot of the apartment complex, three men appeared from behind a parked car and approached the delivery driver. One of the suspects was armed.
The three suspects began to beat the victim repeatedly causing him to fall to the ground, police said. One of the suspects attempted to take the victim's wallet from his pocket, but he covered his pocket preventing them from taking it.
The beating continued while the driver was lying on the ground, and then the armed suspect took the man's keys and drove off in his car, leaving the two other suspects at the scene. They later ran off on foot.
The delivery driver was transported to an area hospital with a broken ankle and cuts to the face and body.
Police said about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, they spotted the delivery driver's stolen vehicle near 55th Street and Michigan Avenue. When they tried to stop the car, the driver sped away.
The car later crashed into another vehicle at Gregory Boulevard and Bruce R. Watkins Drive. Three men attempted to run from the car but were arrested.
