SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) -

A mother and daughter are safe Tuesday morning after giving their loved ones a scare.

A 23-year-old woman and her mother are shaken but safe after getting lost during a hike and spending the night in Shawnee Mission Park.

Hannah Jorgensen was training for an event in Colorado.  She and her mother were hiking in the park around sunset Monday night.  She said they came to a clearing and thought they located the way back to the car.

But instead, it took them further into the park.

When they couldn't find the trailhead and it got dark out, the pair huddled together.

"We were like, 'we can do it, we can do it.' We were singing happy songs and then we were like, 'Oh, our bodies hurt.'  We were crying, so we're like, 'Let's just take a rest.' We could feel that our body needed it for a little bit,"  Hannah Jorgensen said.

Jorgensen's father got worried when they didn't come home and went looking for them.

Police were in the park Tuesday morning searching for the women.  They found the trailhead and let police know they were OK.
