OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

Cooper thieves are targeting homes for sale in Overland Park.

The thieves are stealing air-conditioning units at the homes.

"They are going all over the city," said Officer Gary Mason of the Overland Park Police Department.

Police believe it is a gang and they are using a U-Haul to attempt to blend in.

Mason said residents are asked to keep a close eye out especially when the house next door to them is for sale and vacant.

The loss has totaled tens of thousands of dollars.

"It's very frustrating," Mason said. "We want to catch them."

Copper thefts cost the U.S. economy more than $1 billion annually.
