KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The driver who fatally struck a man in Kansas City early Saturday left the scene.

The pedestrian was struck and killed about 3 a.m. near the intersection of East 80th Street and Troost Avenue on Kansas City's east side.

Stephen Reddy, 51, of Kansas City died at the scene. The driver continued south on Troost.

Police stopped a vehicle near Bannister Road and Wayne Avenue after receiving complaints about a reckless driver, according to court records.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker on Monday charged the alleged driver with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.

Aldo D. Rivera-Campillo, 33, of Johnson County, KS, smelled strongly of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and he did not respond to verbal commands, according to court documents. The man had glass shards on his clothes, arms and hands. His vehicle had damage consistent with the crash, and glass shards were throughout the vehicle.

The man told detectives that he had been at Westport drinking and thought he hit something in the road.

His blood-alcohol level was .252 about two hours after the crash, which is more than three times the legal limit. His blood was negative for drugs, according to court documents.

His Kansas driver's license expired in January 2009.

Prosecutors are requesting a bond of $100,000.
