LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

The body found in Douglas County on Thursday is that of a missing Lawrence, KS, man.

An autopsy has confirmed that 23-year-old Yelekal Alemu of Lawrence is the deceased individual that officers discovered yesterday afternoon in a rural wooded area of Douglas County.

Alemu was listed as a missing person in a report on May 12 by the Lawrence Police Dept. Police were able to locate Alemu's vehicle the same day he went missing just south of the Wakarusa River and County Road 1057.

Officers searched the area extensively where the vehicle was found but they were unable to locate Alemu. Lawrence officers were conducting a follow-up investigation when they discovered his body.
