Ruling expected in Metro North Mall redevelopment

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The redevelopment of a Northland mall could move forward in the coming weeks.

Metro North Mall, near U.S. 169 Highway and Barry Road, has been in a legal battle over the vacant Dillard's site inside the mall.

Before the redevelopment can continue, a judge must rule on the dispute between ZR Metro and the city's Planned Industrial Expansion Authority.

ZR Metro, Zona Rosa's corporate entity, bought the old Dillard's building back when Zona Rosa opened.

MD MGMT has plans to redevelop the building but details remain vague. The company owns most of the property on the south side of Barry Road as well.

A Clay County judge is expected to issue a ruling in the next couple of weeks.

If the ruling favors PIEA, they would buy out ZR Metro from the Dillard's site after appraisers determine the market value of the property.  However, if ZR Metro wins in court, it is unknown if the mall's redevelopment would continue.
