KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Graduation night for many Paseo Academy graduates was memorable, but for the wrong reasons.
Police from two different patrol divisions had to rush downtown after fights turned into a large disturbance, authorities said.
The Kansas City School District is working with police and others to prevent problems at the graduations still to come this week.
Off-duty police officers working the fine and performing arts academy's graduation called for backup Wednesday night. The fights broke out inside the Municipal Auditorium.
No one was injured in the melee.
In a statement, Kansas City School District officials said district leaders were "saddened and disturbed" by the altercations.
"KCPS has investigated this incident further and have learned that these altercations were among family members and did not involve KCPS students or employees," according to the statement. "We are saddened such actions by outside influences marred a wonderful celebration of academic achievement. Moving forward, KCPS will take appropriate action to ensure an orderly and solemn ceremony."
