KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
The economy is still tight, so are a lot of family budgets and travelers have to shell out a few more dollars if they plan to fly out of Kansas City anytime soon.
But the news isn't all bad.
When air travelers hear ticket price increase, most would naturally react with dread. But the silver lining here is after new numbers were released and Kansas City International Airport is still one of the cheapest airports to fly out of in the region.
Compared to last year's fourth quarter, KCI ticket prices went up by nine percent. It now costs an average of $175 one way.
Des Moines, IA, has the highest prices in the region at $226 one way with an increase of 10 percent since late last year.
KCI spokesman Joe McBride says travelers can blame fuel prices and labor costs for these increases.
"It is just an ebb and a flow and it looks like fuel prices are stabilizing at the pump when we are paying, so it should lead to stabilization in airfares as well," Joe McBride said.
The one other city that had fewer increases in prices was Lambhert St. Louis International Airport.
But travelers will still pay an average of $8 more for each way.
