NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Police in New Haven said a woman who was kidnapped Sunday morning sent text messages to her boyfriend for help and eventually led to her rescue.

Albert Leclaire, 43, of East Haven, is set to appear before a judge Monday in New Haven Superior Court on charges that include kidnapping, robbery and attempted sexual assault.

Leclaire is being denied bail.

Early Sunday morning police said a woman thought Leclaire needed help, so she stopped.

At that point, police said, he pulled out a gun and forced his way into the vehicle.

Leclaire demanded she take him to several ATMs, and after each withdrawal she had to drive to the Franklin Street public housing complex so he could buy drugs, according to police.

The woman was able to send text messages to her boyfriend starting at around 6 a.m. and was able to keep him updated on her location.

Police said the boyfriend was able to locate her vehicle about an hour later, and was able to tell police the location.

Officers then surrounded the vehicle and said Leclaire was found with his pants and underwear pulled to his ankles and was trying to get the woman to perform a sexual act on him.

Police said she refused.

Leclaire began to fight with officers and then was complaining that his chest hurt because he smoked too much crack.

It's unclear if Leclaire has a lawyer.
