Bicyclist critically injured after hit by car in OP

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

A 63-year-old man suffered critical injuries Sunday after he was struck by a car.

Police were dispatched to the accident about 8:30 a.m. Sunday at 112th Street and Metcalf Avenue.  Police said the crash involved a gray Nissan passenger vehicle and a bicyclist.

According to witnesses, the silver Nissan, which was driven by a 28-year-old woman, was traveling southbound on Metcalf Ave. and approached a green light.

According to police, the cyclist was traveling westbound on 112th Street and was struck by the vehicle.

He was transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, and the driver of the Nissan was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The Overland Park Traffic Safety units are continuing their investigation.
