Mission police apologize for raiding wrong home

MISSION, KS (KCTV) -

A man, his pregnant wife and their young son had guns pointed at them all because police went to the wrong street.

The error came because police went to Beverly Lane rather than Beverly Avenue, which is one street over. Johnson County dispatchers provided the wrong address.

Mission Police Chief John Simmons admitted his officers went to the wrong house.

"I think we could have handled things better. I certainly have extended my apologies to the family," Simmons said.

Anthony Rigloizzo appreciates the apology, but said he wishes officers would have explained their actions at the time. His wife is eight months pregnant and they have a toddler son.

They were putting their son to bed Wednesday night when officers burst into the home.

A neighbor described watching officers drag Rigloizzo from his home. He was forced to lay on his lawn with his hands behind his back in handcuffs. Officers pointed guns at him.

"I have a little anger, a little anxiety and a whole bunch of worry," Rigloizzo said. "When you are at gun point it is a nerve wracking experience. I felt like I was in a dream."

Police said they went to the home on a welfare check. The neighbor said officers told neighbors that they were responding to a call about a man wielding a gun.

The neighbor criticized the police for invading the family's privacy and failing to do their job.

"They were able to afford a bunch of brand new Chevy Tahoes, but apparently not a single GPS for any of them," said neighbor, who requested anonymity.
