A faith-based magazine for teenage girls that started in the KC metro could soon be sold on the shelves of Walmart nationwide.
Among other things the magazine is competing against are spring-loaded insoles, a plate topper and an eyeglass repair kit.
The magazine has done exceedingly well to get to this point. More than 4,000 inventors, entrepreneurs and small businesses entered the contest. Susie Magazine prints bi-monthly and currently has more than 13,000 readers who get topics like faith, fashion, relationships, sports, hobbies and so much more from a biblical point of view.
The magazine said they want to win the Walmart Get On The Shelf contest as a business but more for the teen girls they're trying to reach.
"We believe that the magnitude of this contest is actually to allow our magazine to come alongside teen girls with truth and with hope and with friendship to allow them to understand who they are and who their identity is in Christ," said Heather Knight, the executive director of Susie Magazine.
"When people discover it, ‘Oh, I wish I had heard about it before… I've been looking for something like this.' So, if we're able to be in an avenue where we can be discovered and we can connect with those young girls and, it's like a dream come true, because we really believe that the product we have is something that people really need," said Roberta Coons-Redig, the magazine's creative director.

After the voting is completed, the top three picks will have the opportunity to have their product sold on the company's website, walmart.com. The grand prize winner will have the chance to have their product sold at Walmart stores across the U.S.
