DOUGLAS COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -
A woman is dead Monday morning after her vehicle was hit by a train just north of Lawrence.
Deputies said Aimee Ziegler, 40, of Lawrence, was killed in the wreck about 2:15 a.m. Monday near North 1800 Road and North Third Street, just west of the entrance to Riverfront Park.
Investigators said she was trying to get around the railroad crossing gate when her car, a silver Honda, was struck on the passenger side by a Union Pacific coal train.
Ziegler died at the scene.
The train tracks are located just southwest of the Lawrence Municipal Airport.
