Manufacturers already coming back (SIDEBAR)

Posted: Updated:

Although the BCG report doesn't expect the manufacturing to start creating a bulk of its jobs until after 2015, a number of manufacturers have already made their way back to the U.S.

AmFor Electronics recently pulled some of its foreign manufacturing from China and Mexico and into Portland, OR. The company cited ease of design changes and delivery in its reasons for moving.

Farouk Systems, a Houston-based company that manufactures professional hair care and spa products, moved 1,200 manufacturing and distribution jobs from China and South Korea to their hometown, encouraged by the popularity among Americans of products made in the U.S.

Within the last few years, All-Clad Metalcrafters, known for its high-performance cookware, moved its lid production from China back to Pennsylvania to be closer to customers and its main factory while reducing capital costs.

In 2010, ET Water Systems announced that it was moving its production from China to San Jose, CA to improve quality, cut down on added costs from tariffs and duties and accelerate innovation and new product development. The company makes irrigation control systems.
