Man dies after altercation at Northland party

Posted: Updated:

An altercation at a Northland party has left one man dead and a second man is in police custody.

About 4:45 a.m. police were called to a house in the 1700 block of Northeast 101st Court in Kansas City, MO, after learning an ambulance had been called.

When officers arrived, they learned that there had been an altercation at a party, killing the man. Officials are not releasing how the man died, but they have said it was not a shooting.

Jacob Jarozewski's 26th birthday would have been Monday, so it was likely he was attending a party in his honor.  His parents live near the home where the party was held.

"It's just sad that something that was supposed to be a joyous occasion is now marked by tragedy," a neighbor said.

But neighbors, whose identity KCTV5 is withholding, say it was anything but tranquil Saturday night when guests started arriving at this house for a party.

One neighbor, who has lived nearby for three years, said there has never been anything like this before in the neighborhood know to always been safe, calm and peaceful.

According to neighbors, cars began arriving, and a guy pulling a keg out the back of his truck about 6 p.m. for a party that continued well into the night.

"They had music playing until late. I had trouble falling asleep," said a neighbor.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate the incident and no charges have been filed. Police obtained a search warrant for the residence Sunday to help with the investigation.

The man in custody was also attending the party.

The residents of the Northland home had just recently moved in, according to neighbors.
