It can be a no-win situation for a coach's son.

Dad can be tougher on him than the rest of his teammates. At the same time, some may question if he gets more time on the court than other deserving players.

Creighton (8) vs. Alabama (9) - Friday, Greensboro, NC

If Doug McDermott – the son of Creighton coach Greg McDermott – had any doubters about his talent, he has quieted them all. The sophomore has done more than enough to prove he belongs in the Bluejay starting lineup and among the top players in the NCAA.

McDermott is also a great example of how someone can be missed when he plays alongside a top recruit. Many representatives got to see him play in high school when they looked at his teammate, North Carolina's Harrison Barnes.

The 6'7" 200-pound Iowa native enters the tournament ranked third in the country in scoring. He averaged 23.2 points and more than eight rebounds per game this season while leading his squad to a 28-5 record.

He also showed he could score and score efficiently from anywhere on the floor. His 61 percent field goal percentage put him in the top 30 nationally, and he shot nearly 50 percent on 3-point attempts and hit nearly 80 percent of his free throws.

Creighton reached as high as No. 12 in the rankings before dropping three straight games in February, putting its spot in the tournament in jeopardy. McDermott and the Bluejays responded, winning seven straight and earning an automatic bid by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

During that seven-game stretch, the second-team All-American had his best games when it mattered most. He scored 36 against a strong Long Beach State squad and chipped in 33 points in the MVC Championship.

McDermott's efficiency and will to win could send several teams home earlier than expected.
